Honegger's "King David" with the Oratorio Society
June 12, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Charlottesville Ballet joins the Oratorio Society of Virginia to present Arthur Honegger’s symphonic psalm dramatically details the life of King David. Performed with a professional orchestra and soloists, and featuring original dance interpretations by the Charlottesville Ballet.
Arthur Honegger’s King David (Le roi David) first premiered in 1921 as a part of a René Morax drama. It was then adapted by the composer into a concert work, and has since entered the standard choral repertoire. Nevertheless, the stirring piece is not often performed – so the Oratorio Society’s June 2015 performance gives the Charlottesville community a unique opportunity to hear this beautiful music.
Additionally, this performance will feature a collaboration with four soloists from the Charlottesville Ballet. The addition of several professional dancers to the production – with original choreography by Mary Steward- will be the first of its kind and recapture some of the dramatic flair of the original 1921 play, offering another layer of narrative depiction to the works instrumental numbers and choral scenes.
WHEN: Friday, June 12 at 7:30pm
WHERE: The V. Earl Dickinson Building at PVCC | 501 College Drive in Charlottesville, VA
TICKETS: $30 for Adults and $20 for Students
